What I Know Now…#SocialMedia

So by now you should all know I have a tech addiction …always on my iPhone or MacBook (refer back to my last post about #Apple products)…but over the years (almost twenty-four of them to be exact) I’ve picked up a special type of interest in social media.

When I think about myself and how I grew up it doesn’t surprise me! I mean shit, we grew up in a tech boom…where AIM was the closest thing to Facebook & our parents still had house phones (even though some of us still do, cause Comcast has the greatest business ploy ever..the fucking #ComcastTriplePlay

Now instead of getting kicked offline by your mother picking up the telephone… (HELLO MOM IM TRYING TO MAKE THE MOST PERFECT AWAY MESSAGE EVER CREATED RIGHT NOW, SO NO, YOU CANNOT USE THE TELEPHONE!) …we can just give her the “jerk-off” button the next time your mom tries to call you one million times while your sitting in class because she wanted to make sure you were “making good choices”

THE POINT I AM TRYING TO MAKE IS SIMPLE: We’re the first generation to grow up in a time where digital technology expanded and gave us the ability to network and communicate with anybody our beautifully manicured fingers desire. With that being said, you should know by know that I LOVE having this access and I use it to my advantage whenever I can.

I will say, and most likely my friends will agree, I’ve always enjoyed expressing myself. I think it’s the millennial narcissism in me that drives my passion for sharing every single breathing moment of my life with people, some of which I’ve never met. Over the years I’ve become slightly obsessed with social media (we all love the reblogs and the favorites, don’t bullshit me…) and naturally when you practice something regularly you’ll sort’ve become fucking awesome at it.

It started out where I really would only use the techniques I had learned in classes or research…

..to promote something important like the bar we were going to that night so that we got VIP & didn’t have to pay for shit!</center<

…I told you I’m smart, but I’m also a girl, so that adds extra bonus points for achieving getting what you want, although most men would disagree I’m sure..we are manipulative, and as I always say… a little S & M (seduction and manipulation) won’t hurt anybody if you’re doing it right #BOOM #WhatIKnowNowMoment

…Later, as I began college, this practice and exposure to social media, changed the way I conducted research, made friends, found out how the fuck to get home, and all that’s in between. I channeled my inner creativity (I’m a Pisces…we’re full of it, creativity I mean) in my early digital days on platforms such as Xanga and Live Journal. When MySpace, Facebook, and Twitter were developed, I was always the first one using them out of all my friends. Shit, I remember having to get “recommended” or “authorized” for Facebook. Wtf is that shit Zuck?!

As we all know, the other platforms we use today were created and just like in the past, my curiosity got the best of me and I was an amateur within a few hours.

Hi my name is Taylor and I’m addicted to social media.

Sometimes I do have to tell myself to sign off or put the phone down, because I don’t want to miss real life…jk that is my real life…the only reason I sign off of technology AT ALL is to sleep, which ironically I don’t get much of these days. I’m a senior in college, what should I expect….a hot meal and a full 8 hours of sleep? Ha. College should come with a warning label and several types of pharmaceutical drugs.

I have one year left of my undergrad, yeah, scary I have to grow up and end the tequila shots on #MexiMonday, but nothing could compare to getting up in the morning to get PAID TO BE ON SOCIAL MEDIA! Ok sorry, I’m a little enthusiastic about it…but then again, I’m also enthusiastic about anything with glitter and taking a trips to Walmart.

Keep your fingers crossed for me — I’m in the middle of a massive search for a summer ’14 internship. I’ve worked my ass off, no bullshit, the past few years and I want to finally have something to show for it other than a Blue Book with an “A+” scribbled across the front (College of Communication Students you know all about those dreaded Blue Books…)

With all this being said the reason for this post in the first place was that Ogilvy@Social tweeted a picture earlier this week that I think may have been the most innovative graphic image I’ve ever come across online. It’s more than 500% accurate and it describes all the big players in social media, along with what their associated with, within their respected field. #NerdStatus

So enjoy, learn something new & share this shit so other people can do the same! I mean honestly, it’s annoying when people hashtag on Facebook or post 80 million tweets one right after another as if their writing a novel … So this is beneficial to everyone…seriously…nobody cares what you had for lunch today.
